April 15 2013: After Saturday’s thrilling win against the Royal Challengers Bangalore, the Chennai Super Kings will look to consolidate their position as they gear up to lock horns with laggards Pune Warriors in the Indian Premier League (IPL) here on Monday night (April 15).
Murali Vijay and Michael Hussey, the team have an experienced opening pair who know exactly what is expected of them. Suresh Raina has had a silent IPL so far (by his standards at least) and he will be itching to unleash himself. MS Dhoni’s exploits with the bat need no introduction; among the best finishers in the world, the CSK skipper has been in smashing form this season. Dhoni has scored 84 runs off 49 deliveries this season which includes five sixes and six fours.
On the bowling front, Chris Morris has done enough to keep the experienced Albie Morkel out of the team. He, together with Dirk Nannes and R Ashwin, will be the key personnel in CSK’s bowling plans.
On the other hand, Yuvraj, especially, carries a lot of expectations whenever the visitors are playing and unfortunately for them, the left-hander is yet to crack that one big knock that could give the side a boost. And so is Taylor, the New Zealander can be destructive on his day. Pune are hoping that tomorrow would be his day.
Skipper Angelo Mathews will need to lead from the front, and a couple of good performances from the skipper will do the side a world of good going into the later stages of the tournament.
Marsh, Bhuvnehswar Kumar and, of course, Ashok Dinda will have to be on the money from the word go against Chennai. Dinda was smashed for over 63 runs by Mumbai yesterday, and his confidence must have taken a beating. Legspinner Rahul Sharma is also expected to play an important role.
After back to back home fixtures, Chennai Super Kings will hit the road for back-to-back away games. Their first stop will be the national capital, where they take on the Delhi Daredevils on April 18. Pune Warriors India will head back home to take on Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 17.
