April 29 2013: Mumbai Indians take on Kings XI Punjab in match 41 of Pepsi IPL 2013.
The Mumbai Indians sit among the top four teams in the table and are slowly finding form. After successive defeats, MI returned to winning ways defeating defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders and then followed it up with a resounding victory over RCB in their previous match.
Kings XI Punjab meanwhile lie mid-table with four wins and as many defeats. They suffered a five-wicket defeat against the Kolkata Knight Riders in their most-recent outing but had two convincing wins prior to that.
MI will be pleased with themselves. Not only did their batting clicked from top to bottom as they posted 200, their bowlers bowled to a plan and manage to curb Gaylestorm before it could gain any momentum and inflict a crushing defeat on the runaway leaders. In Smith and Tendulkar they finally have an efficient opening pair while Malinga and Johnson are as good a set of opening bowlers as any in IPL. They will try to make most of the home advantage and leap to the 3rd spot.
While KXIP batted better for most part of their inning against KKR, the familiar collapse towards the end saw them 15-20 runs short. Not that it would have mattered in the end after the way Bisla and Morgan batted. Fielding was also subpar as two dropped catches didn’t help. Bowling was patchy as bowlers failed to bowl to the plan. Azhar’s bowling at death has been ordinary these days and if Marsh is fit then Gilly might be tempted to include him in place of Azhar. KXIP can afford to go in with an all Indian bowling attack.
This is a potential 4 pointer with the result being so important. It is a must win for both teams.
