Mumbai Indians posted the highest total of IPL6 to rout Delhi Daredevils by 44 runs in Match 10 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday.
It was the third consecutive defeat for the Delhi side.
Chasing a target of 210, Daredevils were off to a horrible start losing Unmukht Chand off the first ball from Harbhajan with Ponting taking a brilliant catch.
Skipper Mahela Jayawardene also followed him back to the pavilion in the third over.
David Warner (61) and Manpreet Juneja (49) kept Daredevils in the hunt with an 82-run stand for the third wicket in eight overs.
But with the asking rate climbing as they faced a steep target, they lost wickets at regular intervals.
Earlier, blazing half centuries by Dinesh Karthik (86) and Rohit Sharma (74 not out) powered Mumbai Indians to 209 for five after opting to bat first.
It was a magnificent recovery from the hosts who lost batting legends Ricky Ponting and Sachin Tendulkar with just one on the board before going on to post the highest total in IPL6.
Karthik and Sharma flayed the Daredevils attack during a 133-run stand for the third wicket in less than 13 overs.
Karthik's 48-ball 86 contained 14 fours and two sixes while Sharma was unbeaten on 74 off 50 balls.
Mumbai continued the momentum with Rayudu's slamming 24 with two sixes and two boundaries after Pollard's soft dismissal.
Sharma continued the onslaught from the other end slamming four and five sixes, including three in the last over from Nehra whose two wickets cost 49.
Morkel claimed one for 43 and Pathan one for 37.
Yadav had none for 20 and Nadeem none for 26 with Jeewan Mendis giving 20 in two overs.
